The long straight lines slowly give ground. The mountains rear up in the distance, offering themselves. In the falling light the dunes appear to insist on their place between the fields and the mountains. The straight lines that lead us here wriggle themselves up in laughter.
Taken: 02/25/2022, 5:14PM, 7600 feet above sea level at Great Sand Dunes National Park. The park was expected. The immensity of it, the sensation of the unseen and the immeasurable was a complete surprise. The temperature plummeted after dark, and the vast black sky came out. A world unto itself.
