The Dark Spell

In the cold a few things become obvious:
1) The sea is more powerful than you
2) What is seen is not what it seams
3) Things tear easily, pleading doesn't help
4) Lights beckon more because they are the last warmth

Taken: 01/07/2012 in Hudson River Park, NYC. Riding along the West Side highway I wanted to make use of the darkness and the dearth of people on the piers. In the background lights are being built skyward, racing all that drags them down. The water is silent and cold but it yearns to be a part of every photo, every thought--having made its way inland, the water wants to hear everything and see everything.

Haute Color

Everything is better in color, except black and white photographs.

When she stands still the earth hurries to keep up.

Taken: 11/26/2011 by Jane's Carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The cold was following us around and the bridges' eyes watched as we set up and tore down our photos--their twinkle belying amusement.

In the Way

We tiptoed around the city, the misplaced fountain draining our thunder.

Fountain of Peace
Taken: 08/10/2010 in Montreal, Quebec, CA. After a morning's worth of walking, the heels of any person can rub bare.

When All Else Fails

The colors don't betray the lie.

Taken: 07/13/2011 in Monterey Bay, CA. I was at the Specialized Bicycles dealer event. I hauled my camera around for 3 days without really knowing why. I think I only took a couple good shots the whole time. Sometimes the weather is against you, sometimes it's just fatigue. On this trip I could barely see anything to shoot. Sometimes sunset is like a get out of jail free card.

Extreme Contraption

The floating paradise of Garbarge confounds not only the laws of physics but also puts paid to the notion that there's any hope left.

It may be a recycling barge but given the usual state of fullness of recycling bins relative to the usual state of fullness of garbage bins, I must assume there are at least two or three Garbarges floating for every one of these Recyclers.

Taken: 04/10/2011 on the East River, NY. Thank you NY for recycling a Barge's worth. Let's do more. (see, I'm not all "the barge is half empty")
